Storytime is a magical thing. Children gather around on the floor with their parents, a group leader or librarian reads a story aloud. Maybe there’s a special craft, song to sing, or time after for kids to play while parents chat, and everyone leaves a little happier than they came. Odds are good that you’ve been to a storytime before. But if you haven’t, let us be the first to tell you that you are missing out! Luckily, we live in a wonderful community where free and low-cost story time gatherings can be found all around town.
You know how important reading is for your daughter’s brain at any age, and there will definitely be reading at a storytime. But story time is about so much more than just reading a book! There are special, unique benefits your family gets when you go to storytime.
For you, it’s a chance to meet and connect with other parents who are going through the same parenting struggles you are, and looking for new friends and future play date opportunities. Looking around the room at story time is a great reminder that you are not alone. You’ll also pick up on new ideas from the story time leader about how to make reading more fun and engaging for your son. We learned some of our favorite songs at our local library’s storytime.
