Looking to boost your child’s self-reliance? We have some ideas 🙂
Getting dressed
Support your child on the sidelines with corrections if clothes are on backwards or socks are on wrong feet
Assign age appropriate tasks and chores
Cleaning up toys is appropriate for most ages and you can progress from there
Practice school routines
These are skills that all school age children need to work on before getting to the classroom: packing/unpacking bags, refilling water bottles, going to the bathroom unassisted, getting ready to go somewhere on a schedule, putting on/taking off/hanging up coat and backpack, and brushing teeth, wiping face, blowing nose, washing hands, etc.
Meal time tasks
As your child gets older, let them take on more responsibility by setting the table, serving food onto their own plate, clearing their dishes after eating, etc.
