Sharing Ball
Super simple. Roll a bowl to your child and say “my turn” – when they roll the ball back, say “your turn”. This game will evolve as children get older and have more coordination.
Alternative: share bubbles by taking turns blowing and/or popping bubbles
Build a tower together (LoveEvery.com)
Another simple idea. Once your child is able to stack blocks, it’s time to build together. For this, you need to make it clear that each of you will take turns adding one block at a time: “first you, then me, then you, then me…” until it falls down. If your child gets really excited about building, remind them by saying “wait, it’s my turn!”
Head to the Playground
There’s nothing better than sharing a playground with other children. This is a chance for turn taking in action and a way for your child to watch other children play together.
Pass the Ice Cream Game (Sunny Day Family)
Inspired by Mo Willems’ book Should I Share my Ice Cream? Create some paper ice cream cones and play with sharing as you pass a ball back and forth. Make it more fun by adding more balls and making up flavors.
If your child learns from videos:
Life’s Little Lessons: Sharing videos from Daniel Tiger (PBS Kids)
“One way to demonstrate sharing is for young children to see older children or grownups sharing and then imitate that behavior. Children can also learn sharing, and understand that they will get another turn too, from characters in books or with familiar television characters such as Daniel Tiger from DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD.”
