“It’s not done yet!” That’s the message we are hearing from legislators. Why? Because Governor Dunleavy’s vetoes cut some $444 million from Alaska’s FY 2020 operating budget, including early learning — Best Beginnings, $320,000; Parents as Teachers home visiting programs, $474,700; and Head Start, $6.8 million, match for $46 million in federal funding. Legislators were unable to garner enough votes to override those vetoes and are working to restore funds through another bill, HB 2001 (work draft HERE), that also includes the capital budget and the permanent fund dividend, still unresolved.
We are asking you today to reach out to legislators and urge them to resolve these issues without delay.
Here’s how to reach members of the House Finance Committee who are working on the bill.
Contact your own representative and senator. You can find out who they are by scrolling to the bottom right of this page.
And watch or listen to the House Finance Committee meetings starting at 1pm Thursday and on Friday.
Last, thank legislators for their efforts. We thank you!
