Read, Read, Read
Reading aloud to your child can begin while they are still in utero. Bedtime reading is a great chance to slow down with your child and deepen your bond. For some families, it’s a routine that continues into grade school.
Picture Book Walk
Before you read a book, preview it with your children. Ask questions and see what they can guess about the story based on the pictures. Let your children “read” their favorite books to you just using the pictures.
Get Imaginative/Cozy
Reading in a special location can make it more exciting for your child. Try creating a special reading nook in your home, make a reading fort, read under the covers with a flashlight, set up an indoor tent, or create storytime with a stuffed animal audience.
Train an In-Home Expert
Follow your child’s interest by reading a ton of books on a topic your child loves. Gaining mastery is one way young children show pride in their what they’ve learned – it also can lead to some interesting conversations.
