AHFC brings Imagination Library to children in public housing

AHFC_IMG_9675Thanks to a new partnership with the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC), Imagination Library will reach many more low-income families in communities all over Alaska.

AHFC and Best Beginnings launched the new initiative on March 30 in a lively event at Park View Manor, a public housing complex in Anchorage. AHFC is making it easier for families in public housing to register their children in Imagination Library by distributing enrollment forms with welcome letters and annual renewals. AHFC also contributed $5,000 to help Imagination Library continue its mission.

“AHFC is thrilled to partner with Best Beginnings so that young children in public housing and voucher programs can hop on the Imagination Library bandwagon,” AHFC CEO Dan Fauske said.

“In those communities that have Imagination Library, families in public housing with children from birth to their 5th birthday will be invited to enroll,” Fauske said.

AHFC is also putting its staff in touch with the local Imagination Library volunteers, making it easier to keep children enrolled if families move.

There are now 21 local Imagination Libraries in Alaska, reaching more than 13,000 babies and young children in more than 70 communities. Each child receives a new, high-quality, age-appropriate book every month at no cost to the family.

Local Imagination Library volunteers help raise funds and also organize family activities related to books and early literacy. Partnerships such as this one with AHFC help everyone accomplish more for our children.
